Grcic designs racing yacht for Hugo Boss

Konstanin Grcic, the German designer, has partnered with British sailor Alex Thomson to blueprint a black racing yacht for world renowned fashion brand Hugo Boss that will take part in a round-the-world race.

The Hugo Boss yacht features a honeycomb-patterned deck as well as carbon-fibre surfaces, and the seams on the sails represent Hugo Boss’ tailoring. Alex, who has the 2 world records for sailing as well as is the youngest captain ever to become victorious in a round the world race, would use Grcic’s yacht to take part in the Vendée Globe, a solo, non-stop round-the-world race which will begin in November 2016.

Konstanin Grcic stated that tools for sport were mainly about efficiency and precision, which translates directly into beauty and elegance. Therefore, being involved in the design of the HB6 racing yacht with Hugo Boss and Alex Thomson was a dream come true for him.
It has been twelve years that Hugo Boss has sponsored Alex Thomson. Their branding features on the sails and the hull.

The German designer closely worked with Alex to blueprint the aesthetic elements of the yacht, and the navigation as well as sleeping areas onboard, where the sailor would spend the most of his time during the 3-month voyage.

Alex said that it required to be a practical space, but still offered a comfortable sleeping environment. Grcic praised Alex and said that it is really incredible to see Alex at work and listen to him talking about the new boat ideas.
